Love is Meaningless
People use the word love in so many ways that the word has virtually
lost its meaning.
- If you think that love is used for someone you marry, consider a woman
who broke up with her boyfriend because they couldn’t get along. Even if
they no longer see each other, she can say, "We aren’t going out anymore,
but I still love him"
- If you think that love is used to describe peaceful and caring relationships,
consider the person who regularly fights with their siblings may still
say. "I love my brother and sister".
- If you think love is used to describe long term relationships or relationships
that have real meaning, consider the person who describes his dinner, "I
love this pasta!"
- The dictionary also says that you can use the word love to describe
a strong sexual desire for someone, but you can also use the unrespectable
words "lust" and "horny" to describe those feelings.
If you agree to live with someone for the rest of your life and build
a family with that person, then that relationship (usually called a
marriage) will certainly evoke strong emotions. You can label those
emotions love, but you will be using an overused meaningless word to describe
that special relationship.
