Every week a wild eyed entrepreneur comes out with a new diet. There are protein diets, carbohydrate diets, liquid diets, and recently I even saw a fatty food diet.
Every one of these wacky diets have legions of people who have successfully lost weight while on the diet. But since the diets are so ridiculous, very few people continue with it for longer than a month, but they are happy to have lost a few pounds during that period. Then a few months later, the weight returns.
Even though these diets are bunk, here is why they work:
After a few weeks go by, the dieter figures out how to eat more and still obey the rules of the diet, the old habits of undisciplined eating return, the motivation fades, and the diet stops working.
