Imagine a new born baby whose brain is a clean slate. When the baby feels hunger, since it doesnt know anything, it doesnt have any idea what food is or how to get it.
Imagine the mother wearing a red dress feeds the baby food and rings a bell as the baby eats. Once the food hits the babys stomach, he feels satisfaction and takes a snapshot of his entire surroundings. The baby doesnt know where the satisfaction came from but he does know that a red dress, the women sitting next to him, the food on the spoon, and the sound of the bell were all involved.
If the mother did the same exact thing everyday, but one day came in and did everything exactly the same but did not bring in food, the baby would be totally expecting to eat. The red dress approaches, the mother sits down, the spoon comes up, and the bell rings. But this time their is no food on the spoon! The baby would totally expect to eat because the surroudings that are usually associated with food were all present.
The subconscious works simply by expecting that which is most common. Since similar results often accompany similar surroundings, the subconsciouss continuous blind search for similar surroundings can often be very productive. For example whenever you go into a restaurant, you eat. Thus, anytime you walk into a restaurant, your subconscious will automatically expect to be eating soon and will prepare the body for a meal. If however, you continue to go to restaurants without eating, the association between a restaurant and eating begins to diminish.
Since the subconscious works by gravitating toward that which is most common, it is easy to use your conscious mind to manipulate your subconscious. For example if you want to be in great shape, everyday look back on the previous day for examples of you being in great shape. As your subconscious accumulates more and more examples of you being in great shape, it will eventually come to expect you to be a person in great shape and will subconsciously gravitate your body in that direction. You can manipulate your subconscious to break habits also. Everyday look back on the previous day for examples of you acting the way you want to act. Eventually, your subconscious will catch on and begin to make the reality you created, into your actual reality.
