Psychologists and their customers Love Problems

A psychologist makes the most money by working with a patient for years. Once the patient becomes a trouble free happy person, the psychologist loses a customer. As a result, psychology is structured around consoling people and encouraging them to learn over a long period of time to accept, not solve, their problems.

A person who really wants to solve all their problems should write out the things that disturb them and then take the opposite of those things to create some positive statements that if true, would encompass solutions to their problems. The next step is to set goals and physically do things to make those positive statements true. Also, verbal repetition and visualization of those positive statements can also be very helpful. Few psychologists would ever recommend such focused treatment because psychologists are not geared toward rapid problem solving. Instead, they let the patient lie on a couch or sit in a chair and ramble on about various difficulties.

Most people who go see a psychologist really don’t want to solve all their problems anyhow. Although a patient will say they want to solve their problems, getting them to set specific goals or change their behavior toward solving problems is often extremely difficult. Most people with problems will absolutely refuse to take five minutes to write out on paper how they would like to change.

The people who prefer talking about problems rather than solving them form a great relationship with their psychologist. The psychologist earns a nice living while the patient has someone to complain to and someone to console them. In addition, they both can pretend that they are actually working toward solving problems.
