1. The Liberterians believe that governments only function on a Federal level should be to defend the nation and protect individual freedom and property. Other than that, the government should get out of our lives. Rather than social security, people can save for themselves. Rather than medicare/medicaid, individuals and companies can develop their own health systems. And by getting involved less, the government can lower taxes to let the people use their money as they wish.
2. The Reform party believes that the Federal government can remain involved in social security, medicare/medicaid, and other tasks if it can do so in an efficient decentralized manor. Social security could work if it was a private savings program rather than a Federal spending program. Medicare/Medicaid could work if dynamic systems were pilot tested and implemented with the freedom to adapt. Revenue could be increased without raising taxes if we developed a more efficient paperless system. Finally, the government can not violate the laws of economics by spending more than it takes in or borrow away its problems.
3. The Repub/Dem's believe that although change is necessary, radical overhaul of the system is not. Short term changes to social security to put off collapse for another ten years are preferred rather than a radical overhaul. Decreasing the increases in spending or limiting certain benefits to save money in Medicare are preferred rather than restructuring the system. Finally targeted tax cuts are recommended rather than redesigning the way taxes are collected altogether.
Unfortunately 90% of all non-internet media focuses on Just the Repub/Dem option and consequently most people believe that Clinton/Dole are the only choice. If you opt for Repub/Dems, fine, but please consider the options.
