Many adults criticize MTV for being brain deadening probably because when they watch it, they realize that their brains are dead. For those who are alive enough to follow the rapid fire programming, MTV is one of the most intellectually stimulating channels on TV.
MTV remains on the cutting edge of culture by showcasing the latest and greatest artists in the world. These artists can express themselves through MTV with music, words, sound, and video. Music videos are arguably the most powerful artistic medium the world has ever seen.
MTV has taken TV programming to a new level by introducing funny, entertaining shows which help us understand ourselves. Beavis and Butt Head, The Real World, MTV News, MTV Video and Movie Awards have forced other stations to offer more honest to the point programming. MTV is also one of the only stations with the guts to offer real educational programming that is honest, entertaining, and informative. MTV has created great educational specials about sex, violence, politics, education, etc. It is unfortunate that many adults discourage young people from learning by insisting that MTV is for the stupid and brain dead.
When the Romans invaded new countries and introduced books, the indigenous people often criticized books as a tool for the stupid because people would forget the art of storytelling. They were wrong to fear books long ago just as we are wrong to fear MTV today.
