Even ratio (girl/guy) or better rule at the door is the best policy for partieswritten - 3/01/2005 When I throw a party, it is hard to know who will show and who is cool to let in. I want to be inside taking care of business or just having fun and don’t want to manage the door. Having a list can work but not if you want an open party and want to let in new people. Thus, the easiest method for controlling a party is to demand that guys show up with girls. This, in essence, makes the girls become the door person. The door person will let in any guy who has a girl; thus the girls are the ones deciding which guys can get in. Not only does this help weed out the guys women don't like, but it even makes a regular guy behave better. For example the same guy who shows up with a girl, will act very differently than if he comes alone. One guy I know for example would come to my house with a girl and hang out, have fun, and mingle, but if that same guy shows up alone, he makes laps around the house until he finds a girl that he can pull out of the party in order to get some action. I definitely prefer this guy when he shows up with girls. Although I always say my rule is “even ratio (girl/guy) or better”. People always remark "oh I have 7 to 1" or some other crazy number, but that is NOT what I am looking for. It is about having a cool vibe; not about having a ton of girls. Also, when guys say "I have 15 girls" that usually means they will show up with 3 guys and no girls; never fails. My favorite is 3 girls and 2 guys. Usually those dudes are cool and the ratio is positive. Since I do let in girls who roll without guys and not guys without girls, many people fear that the party will have too many girls, but this rarely happens. First of all, girls often leave parties early and without notice, while guys will often hang around until they are kicked out. Also, if a girl walks into a party and sees no guys, she can get on the phone and get a guy to run up to the party in two seconds. Men can’t do that. Thus a positive girl/guy ratio inevitably dwindles to more guys than girls as the night wears on. So what is the big deal if there are more guys than girls? The nature of flirting is that guys pursue and women attract. Thus, if there are more than 50% guys, there are no longer enough women to satisfy the men, and the women get over pursued and put up their defenses. In that case, the party takes on a less free and open vibe. On the other hand if there are more women than men, the women are fine with being approached and those that don’t want to be approached are usually left alone. For example, I have a stripper pole in my house. If there are more than 50% girls at the party, girls will get up on the pole and experiment, but if there are too many guys, the girls get intimidated and avoid the pole completely. Finally, the other big difference between men and women is that men like to have lots of girls at a party. They like lots of chances for them to try their lines and see if they can get some action. Women on the other hand like guys of course, but if there is only one or two super hot guys at a party, most women seem happy even if those are the only 2 guys at the party . . . weird how that works. These are general rules that are not true for everyone. There are many girls who love to be surrounded by guys. And many guys who like to hang out with a pack of dudes. Those people have plenty of places to go . . . like almost everywhere except the top clubs and my parties. These are my observations and theories; let me know what you think . . .
