Schools do not teach: organizational skills, goal setting, time management, things to do lists, meditation, motivation, or breathing. I am sure some teachers mention it occasionally, but schools need to do something radical like replacing English and foreign languages with a course called mental control.
Since mind control skills are not taught, it is no surprise that many kids and adults suffer from problems associated with paying attention, completing jobs, listening to others, etc. But if someone is bad at something that was never taught or studied, then we cant blame the physical workings of their brain for their difficulty in that area.
Some people dont believe that mind control exercises will help, but if you are brave enough to experiment with drugs (ritalin), then you should also be willing to work on methods many successful people swear by. Many people study breathing and meditation for years and years. The same deep levels of improvement can be made with motivation and mind focusing.
I am sure not everyone would be cured magically by studying how to control their brain, but since the subject is virtually ignored by most people including teachers, it is highly irresponsible to call people who suffer from a lack of mind control "mentally disordered".
